Port Bannatyne lies about two miles North of Rothesay, the main town on the Isle of Bute off the West Coast of Scotland.
"The Port" is a small coastal village with a boat yard, three pubs, a post office, a lively cafe/shop, a golf course and the adjacent Kames Castle which offers self catering holiday accommodation. (See Links Page).
The Port is destined to grow in stature with the completion of a marina due in 2007.
Bute is one of the most accessible of Scotland's islands being within easy reach of Glasgow and two international airports (Glasgow and Prestwick).
The Ferry from Wemyss Bay takes about 35 minutes and will bring you to an island which offers many interesting features. It is home to the Marquess of Bute who has residences in Rothesay itself and at the magnificent Mount Stuart seven miles from the town. Mount Stuart is one of the best examples of Victorian Gothic architecture with its marble hall and splendid gardens.
Port Bannatyne sits in Kames Bay at the start of the Kyles of Bute, a very famous and beautiful stretch of water, particularly popular with sailors, which traverses the North end of the island. The views to the East take in the hills of the Cowal peninsula and through to the North Ayrshire coast.
The village itself has a strong community spirit with an active Neighbourhood Watch Association and many organised events taking place throughout the year; sporting, musical and general, including the gala day on 28th May this year and a bonfire party in November. There is also a Village Enhancement Group which is striving to improve the immediate environment for residents and visitors alike.
